Before It Goes Away...

Dustin recently shared in his Sunday school lesson that he decided two things for himself when he became an adult: 1- he'd never eat canned green beans again, and 2- he'd never buy an artificial Christmas tree. Thankfully for him, he married a girl with the same two adult priorities. Although we have been served canned green beans, we've only purchased three lovely REAL Christmas trees in our marriage. And even with all the needles and sap, we have not regretted it. There is just something magical about a real tree glowing in the room, smelling up the entire house with a woodsy aroma. I never want to see it go come the New Year. So before it goes away to where all real Christmas trees go, I thought I'd share this year's tannenbaum.

We went to the wrong tree lot (my bad) and after asking the general prices, I requested to see the "cheapest, most beautiful tree". Thankfully, it was perfect for us!

We should have dressed her up like a lumberjack!

So cute!

We brought home our little, cheap, beautiful tree and laid Julip down for her nap. When she woke up, she was amazed at the transformation! Her little tree was lit so bright with lovely ornaments and figures. It was sweet to watch her reaction as she saw it for the first time!

It really worked out having such a short tree because, with it on the table, she wasn't able to reach it too well. We brilliantly placed the important ornaments on top, allowing the bottom branches to hold dinky ones. :)

When Dustin and I first got married, his mom (and mine, too- sort of) went through the family ornaments and gave us the ones that had been given to Dustin. And over our three Christmases we've collected a few of our own. I have a few favorites:

This is a little German ornament from Dustin's mom. We actually have about 10 German ornaments similar to this little guy. I just think they are so charming!

My most awesome grandpa, Papa Alex, carved this ornament. It's an angel. A very tan angel. My Nana is an artist and painted it. She's actually a hispanic angel because my Papa Alex was from Mexico. I miss him so so much!

Dustin and I bought this little ornament on our honeymoon. We literally looked and looked and this was the only one we found that would suffice (we must be ornament snobs).  It reads: "Our 1st Christmas Together -2009- Caro and Duddy" How sweet. Duddy is what I call Dustin most of the time. It's a combination of Dustin and Buddy. :)

I love this little fella cause he looks so cheerful and he's vintage.

As you can tell, I really go overboard with decorating.... not. Just a little touch of greenery and lights.

However, I did make our stockings this year. I'll be making one more as soon as we pick a name! (Let me know if you're interested in me making some for your family next year!)

Little Julip daily serenaded the tree with her lovely piano skills. She's a real talent! Thank you Gran for this precious gift! Julip is working on Jingle Bells for next Christmas!

I don't know when this tree will be taken down. If it were up to me, he'd be welcome to hang around all year. However, we wouldn't be as excited for next year's new tree. But for now (and maybe another week or so) we'll finish enjoying the glow from our short, cheap, beautiful, needle-dropping tree friend.

Isn't he lovely?

love,
caro

So tell me, are you a real tree or artificial tree person?

Would love to be a real tree person; however, after sneezing and coughing the first 5 Christmases of marriage I realized that like my mother and grandmother I am allergic to Christmas trees. ;-(

we are real tree people, but after we pay for the tree, we always say we will get an artificial one next year to save money. We never do. By the time we spend all month smelling in the goodness we just can't revert to fake.
