I know this blog is usually about Julip (don't worry, I'll post a picture of her!), but today I'd like to share what's been growing on outside!
The beginning of our small garden.
My sweet Grandaddy, whom I never met, was a horticulturist before horticulture was cool. He passed on some of his growing genes to his children and grandchildren, including me! I must admit, my thumb is far from green and I often wish he were here to help me. But with the endless information available, gardening is a learning experience from sowing the seeds to eating your homegrown produce. Among my many passions, I have such an interest in gardening and eating homegrown yummies! Thankfully, America has caught on, and I'm delighted to be a part of this greener nation!
Sweet strawberries beginning to blush.
Such an exciting site for gardening beginners.
Tasty berries!
Breaking through the soil...
Because we're limited to our deck, we have container plants. We have basil, cilantro, strawberries, arugula, squash and zucchini growing. For splashes of color, we add dahlias, zinnias, baby's breath, and English wildflowers! As of yet, we still have no zucchini or squash fruit. I think this is because the container is too crowded. But we have eaten lots of our arugula, basil, cilantro, and strawberries!
So rewarding, growing your own goods!
Arugula is perfect for a Saturday morning omelet!
When she's a little older, I hope Julibelle shares this passion with me! Check out this sweet blog of a daddy and his little gardener, Maggie. I hope this inspires you to start a garden of your own. They're fun, affordable, and green!
And as promised...
My view while grocery shopping! This is the most rewarding homegrown good! :)
Love,
The Jernigans, all three
