Wanna know a funny story? So four years ago around this time (geez, I had to do the math and it's crazy to think it's been that long) Dustin and I started getting interested in one another. We met at a bar. JUST KIDDING (some people meet at bars and have great stories- I'm not downplaying your love story, ha). It's funny, but our church kinda put us together. Dustin had the most least likely elder say, "You know that Caroline girl? You should date her." I had a youth mother approach me very dramatically and say, "It's just been so heavy on my heart recently that you and Dustin would be great for one another." OH and one time, we actually were bringing this homeless hitchhiker some food and he looked at Dustin and said, "You're a lucky man to be married to a girl like her!" and we were no where close to even admitting that we liked each other then!!! ANYWAY, we had countless, strange and hilarious suggestions that we were/should be together forever. (I even had a lady at the coffee shop call me "Mrs.Jernigan" long before Dustin and I even began down our love journey... crazy!!!) We actually avoided the situation entirely for months until sometime around Valentines day. We were asked to provide the music for the Valentines banquet at our church. We played a few hymns with the youth and left two "love" songs for the end, and just the two of us played. We picked random songs, Cat Power's Sea of Love and Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire, and the plan was to simply serenade the sanctuary with music. Well, that is not what happened... As soon as we started singing the words, we literally locked eyes and were going all googly-eyed at one another. A friend said it best- "Y'all were like making love with your eyes up there the entire time." haha! Yes, it was awkward (for the church) and we were embarrassed, but YES, we were SO IN LOVE!!! :) and that was officially how we announced to everyone that we were dating... OH my goodness! It was undeniable after that!
this was actually from that day those years ago. Geez, we look so young and fresh, haha! he even wore a v-neck to impress me! :)
it literally did not even cross my mind to get/make Dustin anything for Valentine's day... and then he presented me with THIS! Plus a beautiful 14 bloom orchid, too! he even knows I'd rather have a living flower than a dead bouquet. How thoughtful (and I officially get worse wife of the year award!!!).
Dustin and I recently had a conversation about how we "celebrate" as a family. And somehow our celebrations always involve... FOOD! There is no other way around it. We always have some special meal to mark the special occasion. This morning, while my mom was still in town to be with Julip, we got up SUPER early and went out for a delicious breakfast. It was nice to have a calm, peaceful meal with one of my sweethearts while the other was still sleeping soundly in her bed!
aww there is my handsome man and sweet valentine! Somehow we managed to NOT get a picture together... sad.
yes, there is a little snow on the ground.
special hand-brewed coffee. delicious.
and, oh-my-gosh, the veggie hash! eggs over spinach, brussels, onions, and potatoes. so so good. Dustin got a breakfast sandwich (at least one of us has to get bacon).
and for the afternoon, while Jubie is napping, I'm enjoying reading about my favorite bird and eating THOSE delicious yummies.
I always wanted to marry a preacher! and I did! I'm not so sure if Dustin always wanted to marry an artist/farmer/hippie/crazy lady who wants to be pregnant forever, live on a farm, and have a family band, but he did! Somehow we make a great match! :)
I LOVE YOU SWEET DUSTIN! Thank you for marrying me and being my husband forever and always! Thank you for forgiving me everyday and loving me through my weaknesses. You are the best, and I could never ask for a better friend. Now, come on home! :)
with LOVE,
caroline

So sweet! I'm so glad you liked Half & Half as much as I do!
What a sweet story! Josh recorded me a song (Book of Love by Colin Hay) and sent it to me in an email since we couldn't be together today :( I like the idea that V-day is for men to shower their wives/kids with love.
hey caroline! I wanted to let you know that I have awarded you the Liebster Blog Award. I think your blog is super cute and I love reading it. You can go to the link below to find out more about the award.
