Oh, the anticipation! Dustin and I, and most of our family members, have known now since late December, and, golly, it's been hard to keep it hush hush here on the blog.
What big secret am I talking about? You know... finding out if we're having a baby boy or a baby girl!
This time around, Dustin and I found out in a very interesting way. You see, Dustin had a meeting that could not be moved the exact time of my ultrasound appointment, which could also not be moved. I was so bummed until Dustin had the genius idea of neither one of us finding out. He suggested that we tell the sonographer to write it on the revealing picture and place it in a sealed envelope. Later, we would open it and find out together!
What a great idea! I decided to film the entire sonogram since I'm interested in all that stuff they're showing you while looking around in your placenta (I like the word placenta). I think because I was recording, she was giving awesome comentary. She pointed out things I had no idea they even look for- like the cisterna magna, a fold on the back of the baby's neck, a cleft lip, etc. I was overly joyed to hear her say that everything looked "textbook perfect". Julip was with me and kept saying, "BABY!" She did great!
After the appointment, I put Julip down for her morning nap and Dustin and I headed out for a very special lunch. We went to our friend's restaurant, The Crossing, where he serves local foods, most of which are organic. He's a famous chef and has won oodles of awards for his (four) reastaurants in St Louis. Anyway, I'd never been and it definitely didn't let me down.
Dustin and I looked at the cute pictures of the baby's head and body and legs and arms and toes and fingers saving the revealing pictures for a little later. But what were we waiting on! Dustin began opending the envelope, and there our baby was in all of "its" glory... we saw no butter beans, meaning it's a ...

GIRL!!!! Another little girl! Julip would be a big sister to a little sister!!!
We were overly thrilled. We both just started tearing up. I cannot tell you how excited it made me to know that Julip would have a sister and Little Sister would have Julip. Sisters are just the best! We were definitely surprised, though. This pregnancy has basically been the opposite of little Julip. I was extremely sick with Julip, and only physically sick two times with this baby (one of which I'm convinced was more the food than the baby). With Julip, my skin improved, my hair grew long, and my nails were healthy, but with this baby... let's just say it's been different. Plus, the cravings have been opposite. I wanted sweets with Jubie, and I crave salty with this little one. Needless to say, I now know nothing about pregnancy! :) So far I'm 0-2 in guessing baby's gender (and for the record, Dustin's mom is 2-0).
Julip is excited, too! She kisses her "baby" in my tummy daily.
I've been going through Jubie's old clothes and found the tiniest things. It's hard to believe we'll be holding a tiny little baby girl very soon! :)
These shoes didn't fit Julip till she was three months old; they are "big" shoes for a newborn.
These were the only outfits that fit Julip when she was first born (and for about 1-2 months). Believe me when I say they are TINY! And they were even loose on Jubie at first. I love tiny humans!
Here is tiny little Julip in one of those tiny little onesies :) (look how dark her hair was and how young my husband looks)
Love,
one of THREE Jernigan girls, Caro
